Gateside by TSA PreCheck launched September 2, 2026, starting at Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport before expanding to a dozen more airports within about a week. It lets people who aren't flying that day walk through the security checkpoint without a boarding pass.
In practice that means greeting someone arriving, seeing off a departing traveler, spending a layover together, or just eating and shopping in the gate area. There's no fee for using it.
Why Global Entry members already qualify
Gateside eligibility comes down to one requirement: holding TSA PreCheck benefits or a Known Traveler Number (KTN) from a qualifying trusted traveler program. Global Entry membership includes TSA PreCheck access as a built-in benefit, according to CBP, which means every Global Entry member already holds the KTN that Gateside asks for.
That doesn't make access automatic, though. You still request a Gateside pass for each visit through TSA's online portal, covered below. Global Entry just means you skip the step of separately enrolling in PreCheck to meet the requirement.
Where Gateside is live now
As of early September 2026, Gateside operates at 13 airports:

- Dallas Fort Worth International (DFW)
- Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County (DTW)
- Wichita Dwight D. Eisenhower National (ICT)
- Indianapolis International (IND)
- Harry Reid International, Las Vegas (LAS)
- Los Angeles International (LAX)
- Bill and Hillary Clinton National, Little Rock (LIT)
- Will Rogers International, Oklahoma City (OKC)
- Eppley Airfield, Omaha (OMA)
- San Diego International (SAN)
- Salt Lake City International (SLC)
TSA has said it plans to add more airports in a phased rollout over the coming months, so check before assuming your home airport already has it.
How to get a Gateside pass
Applications go through a TSA online portal, not an app or the airport counter. You'll sign in with a Login.gov account.
Enter your personal information and your Known Traveler Number, then submit the request one to three days before your planned visit. Same-day requests aren't part of the process.
Once approved, you present a live approval status on your phone at the TSA PreCheck lane, along with acceptable ID. The pass covers a single calendar day, and you can leave and re-enter the secure area during that day.
Two limits are worth planning around. Gateside can't be used in Touchless ID lanes, so you'll need a standard PreCheck lane with an ID check. And each airport sets its own daily cap on passes issued, so a request can be denied once that day's limit is reached, per TSA.
Gateside isn't a Global Entry program
It's easy to conflate the two, since Global Entry members are the ones most likely to already qualify. But applying for a Gateside pass runs through a TSA online portal, not the CBP Trusted Traveler Programs system used for Global Entry applications, interview scheduling, or renewals. Requesting a Gateside pass has no bearing on your Global Entry interview appointment or membership status.
