What Enrollment on Departure is
Global Entry approval runs in three steps: apply, pass a background check, then complete an in-person interview. CBP's official program page lists two ways to finish that interview without booking a slot at an enrollment center: on arrival, when you land on an international flight, or on departure, right before you leave.
Enrollment on Departure is the departure-side version. If you're conditionally approved and flying out of one of the two participating airports, you walk up to a CBP office in the terminal before your flight and finish the interview there.
Where it's available: Dulles and Miami
Washington Dulles (IAD) was first, launching Enrollment on Departure in February 2024, the first airport in the country to offer it. The office sits in Concourse B, across from gate B41, and is staffed daily from noon to 8 p.m. ET.
Miami International (MIA) became the second airport to add the program. Its office is in Concourse J, on the second level, opposite the Lufthansa check-in counter. It runs Monday through Saturday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. ET, and is closed on Sundays.

What you need to bring
Enrollment on Departure runs on a same-day departing flight. At its February 2024 Dulles launch, CBP restricted it to travelers flying internationally that day; the program's current eligibility criteria accept any same-day departure, domestic or international.
Bring a valid passport, proof of residency (a driver's license, mortgage or rental statement, or utility bill all qualify), and a permanent resident card if that applies to you. Minors don't need to show proof of residency.
It's a walk-up service, not a scheduled slot, so CBP doesn't guarantee a wait time. Get to the office with enough buffer before boarding.
How it's different from Enrollment on Arrival
Enrollment on Arrival is the program most Global Entry guides already cover: you land on an international flight and finish your interview at the airport before clearing the arrivals hall, instead of booking a scheduled enrollment center appointment. As of mid-2025 it ran at roughly 51 U.S. airports.
Enrollment on Departure flips the timing and shrinks the footprint. Instead of catching your interview when you land, you catch it before you take off, and it's only offered at IAD and MIA. If neither airport is on your itinerary, Enrollment on Arrival or a scheduled enrollment center interview are still your options.
