TSA is preparing to add Charlotte Douglas (CLT) and Raleigh-Durham (RDU) to Gateside by TSA PreCheck, the free pass that lets a Known Traveler Number holder walk a non-flying guest past the checkpoint to the gate. Local outlets report an October 2026 target for both airports, based on statements TSA gave reporters rather than a published press release.
One outlet, citing TSA, reported that additional airports will be added "sometime in October," naming CLT specifically, with Raleigh-Durham expected to join the same fall rollout. A second outlet separately reported an October launch window for both airports. Unlike the individual announcements TSA issued for each of its current 13 sites, neither CLT nor RDU has a confirmed calendar date yet.
The detail worth noting: none of Gateside's 13 current airports sit on the East Coast. CLT and RDU would be the program's first East Coast locations, bringing the nationwide total to 15.

Notably absent: JFK, LaGuardia and Newark. According to one travel-industry report, TSA has kept Gateside out of the New York hub airports because of their disconnected, multi-operator terminal layouts and PreCheck lanes that already run some of the highest daily volumes in the country.
How Global Entry members use it
If you have Global Entry, you already hold the Known Traveler Number that Gateside runs on. CBP lists TSA PreCheck access as a standard Global Entry benefit, and Gateside eligibility is built on that same KTN, so there is no separate underlying enrollment to complete beyond applying for the pass itself.
The application happens through login.gov, one to three days before the visit. Approval is not automatic: participating airports can cap how many visitors they let through on a given day. The visitor still needs acceptable photo ID, or a paid TSA ConfirmID check, at the PreCheck lane. A granted pass covers one calendar day, with re-entry allowed on that date. Children can come along but have to be added to the adult's reservation rather than applying on their own.
None of this touches your Global Entry membership itself. That still runs through the separate Trusted Traveler Programs system, with its own application and interview appointment, and Gateside has no bearing on it.
